Is anyone out there listening?
There happens to be a truly fantastic radio station out here. One that plays what others don't...VARIETY. No, I don't mean JACK FM. Been there. Done that. What a disappointment! We had high hopes for that one, but they were quickly disolved.
I'm talking about AREA 108. (Technically speaking, it's 107.9 on your FM dial.) Our friend Sean told us about this one back in November. We immediatley tuned in, curious about the newest station in Vegas, expecting cheese, and have been die-hard fans ever since.
Before discovering 108, the Weidenfeld household was known to have station battles. Rob would usually vote for 107.5, while the girls and I would whine for 94.1. Now, don't get me wrong, I enjoyed SOME of what was played on the "X-TREME" 107.5. But, I'm not exactly a Metallica fan and I found 107 to be a bit too hard for me. Rob found MIX 94.1 to be too "poppy." Point taken. So now what?
Oh yeah, the 80s station, 102.7. Again, definatley enjoyable...most of the time. I was a child of the 80s, so this should be "home" for me. But it so wasn't. Bon Jovi? Janet Jackson? Phil Collins? No thank you. My 80s music included The Cocteau Twins, Blondie, The Cars, The Ramones, the Cure, Madness, Fishbone, UB40, Sonic Youth, The Pixies, and so on. No big hair bands. No R&B. No Top40.
So back to AREA 108. Finally, a station that plays ALL of our favorites from the 80s, 90s, and today! (Geez! I sound like a commercial!) Rob gets his share of Tool, System of a Down, and Chevelle...which are bands that I also like. I get my fill of everything in between, from Siouxsie and the Banshees to the Beastie Boys, from the Dresden Dolls to U2.
You have so got to listen to this station. Support a station that plays what you and they want to hear. A station that isn't corporate. So, are you listening to 108?
