A Whole Lot of Catching Up To Do
Well, a lot has certainly happened with the Weidenfelds in the last six months. Here's a quick recap, for the curious.
In February, the Weidenfelds held their annual Oscars party. This one was the biggest one, yet, with about 25 family and friends joining them for the BIG screen event. As it was getting down to the wire, it looked as though Sean and Suzanne might have a tie in the Oscar pool. However, Patti made a triumphant comeback and ended up tying with Brian to split the loot. No matter how it looks, this is not a fixed contest. We swear!!! Patti just does her homework every year. (Better luck next time, suckers!)
Also in February, after almost five years of classes, Patti auditioned for a belly dance troupe. She made it in and is now a full-fledged member of the Desert Stars. Look for them at the Renaissance Festival this October.
"Movie Nights" at the Weidenfeld house continued throughout the spring months. Some weeks were standing-room only, others were a bit quieter. But all-in-all, many new friends were made and lots of healthy discussions were had. Season 2 of "Movie Nights" should start up again in September.
By April the Weidenfelds headed west to visit Rob's mom in Chatsworth, CA. for Spring Break. They spent time at Universal Studios, the beach, and helping mom get settled into her new apartment.
This was also the month that Murphy Weidenfeld, their 13 year-old Bichon, was diagnosed with a rare form of doggie cancer. A tumor was successfully removed, but chemotherapy was recommended as a follow-up. The family decided to let Murphy spend his last years without treatment and allow nature to take its course. Happily, he has never seemed better.
Rob's mom visited in May and was with everyone for Mother's Day. That was also the weekend of ArtFest, an annual Henderson event. Patti performed with her belly dance troupe on both days. Many thanks to the frinds who made it out there to support her.
May ended with a Star Wars party over Memorial Day weekend. Most of the folks who came to "Movie Nights" also came to this event, which was also a way to close out the first season. After some fun in the sun and lots of tatsty food, everyone settled in to watch the untouched, first edition of the original Star Wars film. Some things never lose their charm.
By June, school was out and the Weidenfelds were making road trip plans. Patti was the first one to venture out. She participated in the annual Cairo Carnivale with her belly dance troupe in Pasadena. This is an international event held at the Santa Anita racetrack each year. She is very much looking forward to next year's Cairo!
After celebrating Patti's birthday, the whole family packed up and went to San Diego for several days. The Weidenfelds decided to take in some different sights this time around. They spent time at Belmont Park, Old Town, Balboa Park, Mission Beach, and Seaport Village. Before driving back to Vegas, they made a little stop in Chatsworth to see Mom again.
July saw the Weidenfelds enjoying their pool with family and friends on a regular basis, before they set out on yet another road trip. This time, it was Denver. They decided to make the most of their drive and stopped at several tourist destinations along the way. A particular favorite was the Meteor Crater in Arizona.
While in beauitful Colorado, the gang visited the Denver Zoo, Downtown Denver and the 16th Street Mall, Mile High Stadium for the annual Drums Along the Rockies show, and Boulder's Pearl Street Mall.
By August the Weidenfelds were gearing up for Robert's 40th birthday celebration. The party may not have been a surprise for him, but a video done by his best friend Cliff certainly was. It was an entertaining and sentimental look back at some highlights from Rob's first forty years. (Two clips are currently posted under the "video" link on this site.)
As August came to a close, the family was shopping for school supplies once more. This year, Hannah will start middle school at Bob Miller. It will be the first time she gets to ride the bus to school. Eva will be entering fifth grade at Doris French and will continue to go with Mom each day.
That pretty much sums up half of 2007 for the Weidenfelds. They are looking forward to the coming fall and more regular "news" posts.
