The Calm Before The Storm

The Weidenfelds just returned from a week in LaJolla, CA.
We had been planning on spending some time in the Southern California area for quite a while. At first, we were planning on the zoo, tours, sightseeing, you name it. Within days of booking our last family get-away for the summer, we ended up buying the new house and selling our current house. Now we were faced with a dilemma. With our moving date set for August 31st and with the school year starting a few days before that, do we cancel our trip to stay home and pack or do we go for it anyway? Feeling that this would be "the calm before the storm" for us, we decided to stick with our plans and make yet another car trip. However, we also considered that a more "mellow" vacation might suit us better with all the work we would have to face when we returned.
While in LaJolla, we enjoyed the beach and ocean, took in quite a few art galleries (they're Eva's newest passion), went on many long walks, and overall, relaxed! It was one of the best vacations we have ever had. Usually, we try to cram so many activities into each trip that we come home completely drained and exhausted...needing a vacation from our vacation. This time, we made it a point to take in our surroundings and avoid a schedule of any kind. We'd wake up in the moring and Rob would ask, "What's the plan for today?" And I would simply reply, "What plan?" It was quite refreshing!
Now that we have returned to reality, we have a lot of work ahead of us. The boxes have started to pile up in our dining room. The garage is a total mess! It's difficult to fight off those "it'd be so much easier to just stay here" thoughts. Still, we look forward to what God has in store for us once we settle into our new home in a few, short weeks. In the meantime, if you're in the neighborhood and can spare a lil' time, we've got some boxes you could fill!
